Goldsboro Urbanized Area Plan

The City of Goldsboro, acting as Lead Planning Agency for the Goldsboro MPO, in cooperation with Wayne County and NCDOT, is preparing a Comprehensive Land Use Plan for the Goldsboro Urbanized Area which includes the city and areas of the county surrounding the City.  The Plan will include development of future needs as it relates to transportation (new interchanges for the US 70 Bypass), housing, park facilities, historic areas, utilities and zoning based on anticipated growth over the next 20 years.

Goldsboro has received funding through the Community Transformation Project to incorporate a health and wellness component into the Urbanized Area Plan that is currently underway.  The addition of this component will be beneficial to improving the health of the community as the topics include recreation and active living, nutrition, public safety, environmental health concerns such as clean air and water, active transportation, adequate housing, and emergency preparedness.

Goldsboro will be working with the Wayne County Health Department to identify objectives as well as organizations that can help provide health, wellness, and nutrition-based services within the Urbanized Area. Policies and strategies will be established within the Comprehensive Plan to facilitate programs and initiatives revolving around making Goldsboro a healthier community.
